Welcome to 1st Helmsley Group

Scouts help more young people to make a difference in their communities through social action, whilst offering the opportunity to learn new skills and have fun. #skillsforlife

What is Scouting?

Scouting is a remarkable movement that brings amazing benefits and enjoyment to everyone involved – children, leaders, parents and everyone involved with the running of the group.

Through adventure, we help our scouts develop team-work skills, friendships, confidence, independence, responsibility and a ‘can do’ attitude to help prepare them for the wider world.

Everyone in our group takes part in many adventures & activities at weekly evening meetings, weekend activities in the term, and week-long summer camps (for the older sections).  In a typical year, we will go climbing, cycling, caving, hammocking, canyonning, hiking, canoeing, abseiling, kayaking, swimming, fire-lighting, community visits, craft activities, raft building and many many more adventures.

Who is Scouting for?

Some people think Scouts is just for boys – it’s not – we have loads of girls too!

Be Prepared... the meaning of the motto is that a scout must prepare himself by previous thinking out and practicing how to act on any accident or emergency so that he is never taken by surprise.

Fundraising  Events

This year, 1st Helmsley Scout Group celebrate their 110th birthday.  While the group continues to grow from strength to strength, our accommodation is struggling to keep up.

The Scout hut has served the scouting movement well since 1920's, but has now seen better days and needs replacing.

1st Helmsley Group hosts, supports, and participates in a wide range of fundraising events.
Among our many events, you’re sure to find something that strikes your interest.
Make sure you and your family don’t miss out on our next event.

Scout Christmas Post.

1 November - 14 December 2019

What is Scout Post?

This is the first year 1st Helmsley are doing Scout Post. We offer the public a local postal service to deliver Christmas cards in Helmsley, Ampleforth & Oswaldkirk.

How does it work?

Stamps are priced at just 20p this year and are sale from 1 Nov. They can be purchased from various retail outlets and public buildings across the area. All 1st Helmsley leaders will also be selling stamps. Christmas cards are then posted in Scout Post boxes, available at the locations from Saturday 24th November.

Cards must be fully addressed with: Surname, House Name/Number, Street Name and Post Code.

All cards must be posted by 3:00pm on Friday 13th December.

1st Helmsley Scouts will then collect, sort and deliver the cards from the 14th December. All proceeds go to our new scout hut rebuild - helping to provide young people with skills for life
